🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯 So today was a smaller version of Friday except the Cognetive testing went for a longer period if time. Jordan did really well and the chat we had with the psychologist proctoring the assessment said his current unofficial partial status is as follows. - He has appropriate age and grade level knowledge. - His processing & information retrieval speed is the main point of contention. - Jordan's memories are there but the ability to retrieve them easily or quickly is where we need to work. The point to take away from this is Jordan is doing really well each day with his progress, yet he has a long way to go. It's a combination of a couple things. The bruising on the brain still needs to heal. This healing is what can take up to a year or longer. Through this healing process is where the sub acute therapy comes in. Phoenix Children's Hospital is working their butts off, and Jordans for that matter, to get him ready for home. By home I mean our house. They don't want him being intitutionalized like he us currently. Once he is back home the sub acute therapy will come from many sources. The main therapy will come from Mom, Dad & Tara. This foundation will be support the professionals. Those pro's are the whichever sub acute facility we choose, the CCSD Homebound program & Dell Webbs principal Naegle, School nurse Baker, counselor, teachers & his friends. Personally I think his friends will play a more vital and important role than one would think. Depending on where Jordan's progress is at the beginning of the year they may or may not see him at school. Imagine for a minute 20 people are all talking at you at the same time and you need to understand each conversation. This would be difficult for anyone. Now think of this, one person represents sight, one balance, another is judgement, and another breathing, one is hearing, the other is emotions. Fill the others with any voluntary or involuntary action your brain would need to process and you can see what he needs to cope with on his first day in school. I say all this to let you know how much more ground he needs to cover as well as how wonderful my conversation with the staff at Dell Webb middle school was last week. They will work directly with Jordan's therapists to gauge where he is and make sure he receives the required teaching in the best way for him to receive it. That could mean Jordan is home schooled for a year or possibly half year. It could mean taking his three core subjects first thing in the morning and leaving school to go to therapy. I was really worried about Jordan losing touch with his schooling. So I guess it's fair to say the even when he comes home the acute therapy will in theory continue even though it's not called acute. So this was just an off the record update we were given until they are able to finish all the rest of the testing. There will be another test in roughly a years time that will give us a reevaluation of his state at that time. It could be 100%, 80% or some other number. If I had to give my current nonprofessional opinion of where he is now, I would have to place him as a whole somewhere between 50% & 60% of all the abilities Jordan had before the incident. I know this sounds harsh and it is, because I see the videos of his teammates and friends playing and that is the speed I'm hoping Jordan can return to. There is only one part of this puzzle we don't have control of and that is the injury itself and how well it heals. It's the molecular scars that are left that we can't control. This is why we pushed so hard for the Omega-3's. This was our attempt at trying to control some part of everything. Fingers crossed and many good vibes & prayers. When the healing has hit it's conclusion we will be able to say, "We did everything we could". Thank you to all of you for contributing to make that quote a reality. LOVE JMJT 🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯 I'll make this short because it was such a busy day so to have you try and read through everyghing would be rediculous. So, I think I'll just put his schedule down for yesterday to show you how it's been. 6:30-7a - wake up time 7:30-9a - OT 9-10a - Breakfast 10-10:15a - Speach 10:15-1p - Cognitive Assessment 1-1:30 - Lunch 1:30-2p - PT 2-3 Speach food test(Nachos) & lunch continued. 3pm-5p - Mom, Lauren & Tara back to Ronald McDonald house to do laundry. Dad & Jordan went to 3rd floor garden. 5-5:30p - Jordan redeemed so rehab bucks. He bought a card game & a book for Tara. 5:30-6p - everyone back in Jordan's room 6-7p - Kid Zone. 7-8:30 - Light dinner, doughnut dessert & off to an early bedtime. The congnetive assessment is a series of questions a doctor gives to get a baseline mark so they know what & where to build from. This will also help his return to the education system at home. His rehab is always filled with new tasks but he always tries to do better than needed. Jordan wants to come home but the doctors say they want another 3 weeks with him. I think they are loving having Jordan here and don't want to let him go. Anyway, that's a quick rundown for yesterday's activities. LOVE JMJT 🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯🐯 Okay so , better late than never as the saying goes. Arrived back to the Ronald Mc Donald House to realize I had left my charger at the hospital & my phone was running on fumes ... No Blog for u!!!! Yesterday was an excellent one. Jordan is officially off any thickener in any kind of fluids .... His swallow reflex has been deemed back in full force & control after downing a bowl of cereal & milk successfully. OT challenged Jordan with a card exercise that worked his dexterity to pick up cards from a flat surface , distinguish between suites of cards, colors , numbers & left- right - up - down directions while standing the whole time & pegging them on a clothes line. PT ran a series of tests that shall be repeated in a couple weeks to test his body's up/ down response , his flexibility & his speed .. So this have us the base line for comparison. Nushka finished up with a full body exercise to utilize his core by standing & having to adjust his weight & balance while she either rolled to him to kick , threw for him to " knee" ala soccer move or tossed it high to him to hit down with his hands . I stood behind to spot but didn't need to !!!! Around 5:30 Dad , Tara & Lauren arrived making it an all round awesome day!! Here is the wonderful segment The Morning Blend did this morning if you missed it! Ashley Red...You Guys Rock! |

Jordan's StoryFrom John, Melissa & Tara Juliano
Hello everyone, We wanted to include all of our friends in this trying time for our family. Last night, Saturday May 17th at about 5:40pm Jordan fell and received a severe head injury. All three of us heard it happen but none of us saw it. As best as we can summize Jordan was running into the bathroom and went to stop on the tile and his feet slipped out from under him which caused his head to hit very hard on the tile floor. He was responsive at first but after some questioning we realized he needed more advanced care and called 911. HFD arrived within 2 to 3 minutes and we were on our way to St. Rose after 7 total minutes from the call. It seemed painfully longer. Soon after we set of in the ambulance the Paramedic diverted out destination to Sunrise Hospital Childrens Center. If jordan had any hope of a return to the normal boy we know and love that decision was the best decision in a string of great care thet Jordan has received. On the way Jordan's condition gradually became worse. We arrived at Sunrise Hospital Trauma and they wheeled him right in with me following. I answered as many question as I could as they worked on him. They soon asked me to step out to the waiting room. Soon after that the Neurosurgon found us and gave us the situation plainly and clearly. Jordan was very sick and they needed to work aggressively to save his life. The hardest part was hearing that he might not make it through the surgery. . . .We signed te papers and walked with beside his bed to the O.R. We were all allowed tt give him a kiss and then we were walked to the waiting lounge. That was the longest and worst 3 hours of our lives. Tara had many questions and because she had been witness to all the events leading up to now we decided to talk plainly and openly as to the possible results. The Doctor finally came out and said Jordan was doing as fine as he could. His vitals were strong throughout the surgery and when she visualized his brain it looked good but that was only seeing it. there is much more within the brain. We were finally allowed back into the room and saw that Jordan was heavily sedated and was being give blood preaure meds, antibiotics, sedatives, Saline, on a ventilator to breath for him, etc. He has a long road ahead of him. We soon found out children were not allowed to stay over night so Melissa took Tara home and I stayed with Jordan for the first night. All was fine through the first night. In the morning he started to show a higher brain pressure and started to get rid of more fluid (urine) than normal. They took him for another CAT scan and when the doctor came back she was ver pleased with how it looks. We're not quite out of the woods yet, we have another hurdle to overcome. They need to take another CAT scan tomorrow (Monday) morning because the signs of a stroke do not show up until after 24 hours has passed. His reaction to stimulus is positive. When they rub his chest he responds as they feel he should. When they wiggle the IV in his arm he moves that arm slightly. He has gaged at the airtube helping him breath. These are all small but positive signs. This is where we are at currently. I will try and update this as soon as we have any new info to add. The hospital Jordan is staying in is on lower right but we are not in the system yet because we are still listed as a trauma. As soon as we get a real room and not an ICU bed I will update the info. Lastly, If you have received the invatation to this site we consider you firends who even though we may not see you all the time we think of you often. Could you please send out the biggest amount of positive thoughts and/or prayers for Jordan. I know he feels it. We sure do. Love John, Melissa, JORDAN & Tara. Help JordanPlease help us help Jordan and his family after Jordan suffered a terrible brain injury after a fall in his home.On Saturday, May 17th, Jordan Juliano suffered a terrible brain injury after an accidental fall in his home. Jordan is an amazing young man who is in great need of our community's generosity. Jordan is a competitive gymnast, terrific student, and all around amazing young man. His family is faced with the mounting medical bills associated with his treatment. Their insurance will cover some of it but not all it. Jordan will require specialized treatment at an out-of-state facility. The costs of this treatment are staggering and any help and assistance is deeply appreciated.
