As we look towards another Monday, let me recap the past week.
Jordan began phase 2 of his school year & added Science to his curriculum, making his day 4 hours long from 9- noon. The first day presented a small error, in that Jordan told his "transition"helper the wrong teacher he ended up in a classroom that was not expecting him but whose teacher, Mrs.. Mattern, welcomed him with open arms. Jordan's good friend Abby happens to be in this class & so came a BIG decision of should John & I try to keep Jordan in this " mis- class" or simply return him to his previously assigned one???
We decided to ask Jordan what he would like & what he thought would be best for him ... After weighing the facts . All pros & cons , he made the difficult decision to leave the one class that he would have a friend in & join the assigned class that has a few less students & moves at a slightly less hectic pace. Disappointing for him & heart wrenching for me to witness but we are SO proud that he could reason it out & choose logic over emotion - never easy for many of us.
As the week progressed he settled in well, however, & his teacher even informed us she was extremely pleased how he has participated & integrated so quickly! That's our Boy!!
We have also begun to take Jordan in early 2-3 days a week to the library to hang out with one of his friends from Lamping. Accidental meeting that has become something Jordan looks forward
to as a way to have some part of the social activity school usually provides. Friday brought about another first . Jordan stayed for his lunch period but in the calmer setting of the library . A couple of close friends joined him & when I picked him up he was all kinds of happy! ☺️ we shall continue to integrate this on days the therapy schedule permits & eventually move him into the Cafeteria.
Backtrack a day to Thursday & while in the car, for the first time ,Jordan instigated a conversation about his school day. This has not happened since the new year. It is usually very short one word replies..., going with the flow I started to ask questions about the previous evening - what he had for dinner, homework studies & lessons. Normally, he has a very difficult time recalling those details but this time the responses came quite fluidly!!!!! And they were ALL correct. 😃😃😃
He is handling the addition of acupuncture well & we have seen some improvement in his flexiblity ( hamstrings) . Difficult to know if it is the treatment or natural progression of healing. As long as it is happening we don't really care but John & I do believe everything we are doing is working symbiotically to get the job done .
To round out the week , Mr. Man walked out at 9:15 this morning ready to take on the day!! This only the 2 nd time this has happened but twice is better than never, right.
That's it for this weeks run down . Thanks for joining the update & stay tuned for what lays head?!?!
