So before I move onto today I will catch you up on last night before I took Tara home. Jordan has these new Ortho-boots that help keep his feet in a neutral position. In other words he's not in the pointing his feet position and not in the stretching his calves position. The worry is pointing his feet or when you stay in bed for long periods if time you feet continue to point and if not corrected it would be extremely difficult to stretch his calves back out to neutral. In essence he would walk on his toes for a very long time if not forever. These boots keep his feet normal. Back to last night. Lifting his leg by itself is like having a 50lb weight anchle weight on. Add the boots and it's like 75lb. He's moving his right leg into a bent relaxed position. Not as much on the left. But we see him trying.
This morning is back to more movement. Melissa woke up to him suctioning his mouth with the suction tube. Then trying to pull out the nasal feeding tubes answering yes and no questions more, and generally a bit more curiosity about what's in is bed. He's searching with his right hand. Left not so much yet. Looking forward to PT today.
Meds - He just got the meds that stimulate activity. This is a once a day dose. After many conversations with all the doctors they all agree that Omega-3 fatty acids given in a normal daily dosage for his age and weight couldn't hurt since everyone needs these essential fatty acids. I'm happy we could pass this hurdle and I'm curiously & cautiously optimistic about watching his progress from here forward.
What's on schedule for today - Dr. Schmidt (I spelled it wrong in early posts) visited us last night and she wanted to do a follow up CT scan to see how the brain swelling is doing. This is obviously a necessasary follow up but also will help with future decisions regarding how soon we go to the Acute therapy.
Lastly Jordan and I had a good yes/no thumbs up/thumbs down conversation. He needed his head scratched, he wanted to feel his staples, wanted to suction his mouth again, picked a movie, and tried to pull his nasal feeding tube 4 times. He's sleeping now in preparation for PT.
That's all for now
